Lower Trail meets Shingletown Gap trail at Laurel Run Road. The Shingletown Gap area is a popular hiking destination in summer due to the cooling rush of Roaring Run descending from the mountain, stone walls along the creekside, and tunnels of rhodedendron. This popular 5-mile loop includes varying terrain including rocky sections that can be slick when wet. Abundant wildlife is present at any time of year.

Details

  • The area is primarily owned by the State College Water Authority, with portions bordering the northern tip of Rothrock State Forest.
  • Parking can accommodate ~12 vehicles, but will fill up quickly on a nice day. Street parking is prohibited.
  • Walk around the gate and follow the paved road passing the fenced-in retaining pool to reach the trailhead.
  • Open dawn to dusk.
