Description
Join us on an invigorating 2.75-mile hike around Lake Perez at Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center and Stone Valley Recreation Area. Nestled within the 7,000-acre Penn State Stone Valley Experimental Forest, Stone Valley is a 700-acre outdoor recreation and education facility owned and operated by PSU. Lake Perez is a roughly 70-acre lake located within this property and adjacent to Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center. A Conservation Interpreter from Shaver’s Creek will lead the way as we learn about this natural area surrounding the center. Observe, discuss, and learn about wildflowers, birds, insects, reptiles, and amphibians while we explore the perimeter of Lake Perez.

Parking Details
Parking Information: 3400 Discovery Rd, Petersburg, PA 16669. Upon arrival, follow the signs for parking, then follow signed paths to the center.
Note: Pets are not permitted inside Shaver’s Creek facilities, including the aviary, but leashed pets are permitted on the hiking trails.

How to Prepare for Your Outing
Required Items:
- Sturdy, closed‑toe shoes for all outings
- A filled water bottle (at least 32 oz per adult)
- Please note: Most sites do not have water‑filling stations, so bring all the water you’ll need.
Recommended Items:
- Sun protection: sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and lightweight long sleeves
- Insect protection: insect repellent, long sleeves, and/or long pants
Reschedule Policy
Because of the frequency and nature of our wellness sessions, adventure hikes, and guided outings, we are unable to reschedule these events. For special-topic programs, we will make every effort to reschedule when possible. If a special-topic event is postponed, participants will be notified with updated details as soon as they are available.
All programs are held rain or shine. In the event of a cancellation for severe weather, registrants will be contacted by email and/or phone, and it will be announced on our website, Facebook, and Instagram.
