SUMMARY:Guided Outing: Barrens to Bald Eagle Wildlife Corridor
DESCRIPTION:This Wildlife Corridor was conserved by ClearWater Conservancy and numerous partners in 2010 to create safe passage for wildlife species between Bald Eagle Mountain and the Scotia Barrens. ClearWater Conservancy now owns 39 of the 103 acres that make up the corridor\, and that portion is open to the public and protected by a conservation easement held by Halfmoon Township. The remaining 64 acres are owned privately and enrolled in the Halfmoon Township Open Space Protection Program. Wildlife corridors are home to many species of wildlife and act as an important passageway for safe migration\, especially in areas where urban sprawl can prevent animals from roaming and moving freely between habitats throughout the year. Join us to hike along the rolling grassy trails and look for the many signs of life. \nDownload the mapped route here: Barrens to Bald Eagle \n\nParking Details\nParking Information: The parking area is located within a quiet residential neighborhood. To get there\, make a southbound turn from Route 550 on Saddle Ridge Road\, which is the beginning of Trotter Farm Community. Turn right on Harness Downs Road off of Saddle Ridge Road\, and slowly follow this road all the way until it dead ends. Visitors may park along the road if the lot is full\, but may not park on grass\, yards\, or block driveways. Please stay on the same street side as other cars along the road. Carpooling is encouraged and greatly appreciated! There are no restroom facilities at this location\, so plan accordingly. \n\nHike Details\nDifficulty: Easy \nHike Distance (miles): 1.0 \nElevation: slight incline and grassy footpaths \n\nHow to Prepare for Your Outing\nRequired Items: \n\nSturdy\, closed‑toe shoes for all outings\nA filled water bottle (at least 32 oz per adult)\n\nPlease note: Most sites do not have water‑filling stations\, so bring all the water you’ll need.\n\n\n\nRecommended Items: \n\nSun protection: sunscreen\, hat\, sunglasses\, and lightweight long sleeves\nInsect protection: insect repellent\, long sleeves\, and/or long pants\n\n\nReschedule Policy\nBecause of the frequency and nature of our wellness sessions\, adventure hikes\, and guided outings\, we are unable to reschedule these events. For special-topic programs\, we will make every effort to reschedule when possible. If a special-topic event is postponed\, participants will be notified with updated details as soon as they are available. \nAll programs are held rain or shine.
