SUMMARY:Wellness Wednesday: Art in Nature
DESCRIPTION:During this session\, participants will connect with the landscape through observation and art. Elizabeth\, ClearWater’s Executive Director\, and Jill\, ClearWater’s Watershed Stewardship Coordinators\, will join to share their love of art in nature with participants by teaching the basics of plein air and watercolor painting while telling the conservation story of Barrens to Bald Eagle Wildlife Corridor\, which is owned and managed by ClearWater Conservancy. We will start by observing the landscape as a whole\, and then participants will have the option to do a more focused study on a pollinator-plant relationship. The art instruction offered during this event will be introductory\, but all skill levels are welcome to join!   \nAll of the art supplies needed for this event will be provided\, including watercolor paint\, brushes\, watercolor paper\, colored pencils\, pens\, and clipboards. Participants are welcome to bring their own supplies if they prefer. Participants should also bring a folding chair to use during the event. A few will be available to borrow\, if needed!  \nAbout the Presenters:\nElizabeth Crisfield: \nElizabeth joined ClearWater in the spring of 2024 as the Executive Director. As leader of ClearWater Conservancy\, Elizabeth works with the staff\, the board\, and the community to protect and conserve natural resources and habitats. Elizabeth holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from James Madison University\, a master’s degree in agronomy from the University of Georgia\, and a doctorate in biogeography from the Pennsylvania State University. Elizabeth’s work experience includes hydrologic modeling\, water rights negotiation\, public high school education\, and wildlife conservation planning for state fish and wildlife agencies. Elizabeth is a watercolor artist and loves outdoor adventure. She lives in Boalsburg with her husband\, Doug Henry\, and two children. \nJill Barskey: \nJill is ClearWater’s Watershed Stewardship Coordinator\, supporting the organization’s riparian buffer efforts through community outreach\, volunteer stewardship\, and project planning and implementation. She engages with local partners and community members to provide support for restoration projects\, flooding\, and stormwater management\, as well as general water resources stewardship. Native to Southeastern PA\, Jill moved to State College where she received her B.S. in Environmental Resource Management and minors in GIS and Watersheds & Water Resources from Penn State. During her collegiate career she conducted soil research and held internships with Penn State Sustainability leading the Tailgate Ambassador program\, US Fish and Wildlife Service completing streambank stabilization projects\, and as an environmental intern assisting with wetland delineations. After graduation she worked as an Environmental Scientist with WHM Consulting\, LLC with a focus on wetland delineations\, environmental permitting\, and GIS projects. Outside of the office\, you can find Jill hiking\, painting\, making pottery\, fishing\, and kayaking throughout central Pennsylvania. \n

Come enjoy a seasonal\, nature‑inspired creative experience that encourages curiosity and expression. \n*Registration now CLOSED \n\nAbout Our Instructor: \nAnn graduated cum laude with a B.S. in art ed\, first teaching elementary art. Then\, she worked in the graphic-arts printing industry\, continuing to take grad courses\, painting and showing. She worked for Penn State marketing communications and public relations\, retiring from the University’s StratComm Office of Social Media. Taylor-Schmidt has taught an annual Penn State nature journal drawing workshop for two decades. She has instructed both adult and teen students on her own\, and through the Art Alliance. Ann enjoys photography\, bonsai and selling her polymer clay art jewelry creations and teaching through her business Ann Taylor-Schmidt Artworks. \nCancellation Policy \nIf you need to cancel your registration\, please email us at info@centredoutdoors.org at least 24 hours before the event.
